A concern I have with teaching the curriculum and ESL is am I going to get the support I need from principals and ESL specialists? I wonder if the specialist will take the time to sit down with me and come up with the best plan for that child. I wonder if the principal is going to let me do what I need to do to make that child successful.
Another concern I have is when I do get an ESL student and he or she doesn't speak any English. I won’t be able to communicate with the student the way I need to. How can you teach a student, who knows no English, instruction in English? I wonder how long will it take for the both of us to become frustrated to the point of giving up.

For ELLs in my classroom, I would use many strategies to teach them. I would use visual aids in many different ways. For vocabulary, I would have pictures with the words. Picture will help the student know what is word is, even though they may not be able to read it. Instead of write a paper out, I would allow ELLs to draw their thoughts and ideas. I would have as many anchor charts as I could possible have.
I would use audio in my classroom. I would have the student listen to books, and follow the words in the book. This allows ELLs to see how each word is being said. I would have the entire class read out loud so that the ELLs could hear the English language being used by their peers.
I would give plenty of opportunities for the students to work in small groups. Having the student work together is a great way for ELLs to learn the English language by communicating with their peers. It is also a good way for the ELLs to make friendships with the other students.

What I have learn this semester about ELLs or ESL students is that it is important to break down the language barrier. These students need to know the basic vocabulary before they can grasp the content. Visual aids and group work can really help out an English language learner when developing basic vocabulary. There are all kinds of strategies to help these students. All a teacher has to do is look strategies up online. The classroom should reinforce vocabulary so there should be a word wall or something in that nature. Another thing that can help out is getting to know the students culture. Knowing the students culture can give the teacher and students an insight in how the student live and their beliefs. I feel like this class has really prepared me in having an ELL. I know tons of strategies to use and where to get the tools I need.
